The Pasig City government has already started building internet centers in the city for students and teachers to use in the upcoming class opening.
The internet centers are being built to help students and teachers who do not have internet connection at home, according to Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto.
Vico said that the internet centers will be used by students and parents to download the Department of Education (DepEd) learning modules. As for teachers, they can use the high-speed internet to upload the modules. In order for the internet centers not be used simultaneously, the local government will set the use of the center twice a week.
Mayor Vico said
Sa distance learning modules ng DepEd, ‘di kailangan ng mag-aaral ng internet connection sa bahay,
[With the distance learning modules of DepEd, students do not need an internet connection at home,]
Pero kailangan pa rin ng centers kung saan maaaring mag-download ang mga magulang kung walang access sa bahay, ‘wag mag-alala, kada 2 weeks lang at naka-schedule para ‘di sabay-sabay,
[But centers are still needed where parents can download if there is no internet access at home. Don't worry, the schedule is only every 2 weeks for it not to be used at the same time,]
The project has become possible with the cooperation of FinAsia Land Development and Construction Corporation.
Last March, 5 public elementary school in Pasig received 10 desktop computers as a gift from FinAsia and Rappo Technology Corp., in collaboration with PLDT.
The schools are Pasig Elementary School, Palatiw Elementary School, Pineda Elementary School, Caniogan Elementary School at San Miguel Elementary School, they were also given free fiber optic internet connection for 2 years from FinAsia.
The projects was named "Internet sa Eskwelahan Para sa Mabilis na Kaalaman." It aims to prevent students from heading to internet shops for online research.
