In a statement on Monday, August 24, the tech giant confirmed that its third store will open at Marina Bay Sands "soon," although it did not specify an opening date.
The new store will be situated in the dome-like structure floating on Marina Bay, taking over the space previously occupied by the nightclub Avalon from 2011 to 2016. It is a massive 17,000 sq ft area.
On the Apple website is an animation showing the famous Apple logo looking as though it was sitting on water. The Apple said in a teaser on its website,
We will soon open the doors to our new store by the Bay,
Apple Marina Bay Sands will be at the heart of creativity, a place we’ve made for you to capture your ideas and passions.
It will be a space for you to explore, connect and create something new.
Apple opened its first store in Singapore at the Knightsbridge building along Orchard Road in 2017. Its second store opened two years later, located at Jewel Changi Airport, opened in July last year.
Apple is the most valuable company in the world and became the first American company to be valued at US$2 trillion (S$2.74 trillion) earlier this month.
The company shrugged off the effects of the pandemic to post record sales and an 11 per cent year-on-year increase in third quarter revenue to US$59.7 billion in July.
Singapore Polytechnic marketing and retail lecturer Amos Tan said the store opening could be part of Apple’s strategy to ramp up advertising when most other companies are struggling and lying low.
