Gov't assures that it has enough budget for printing of learning modules for students

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said on Saturday, August 15, that the government has enough budget to fund the printing of learning modules to be used by students for this coming school year.

In a virtual press briefing Roque was asked to comment on the reports that some public schools in provinces are supposedly asking for donations to print out modules and other learning materials.

 Roque said,

Well naniniwala po ako na mayroong budget po para sa mga modules at kaya siguro humingi ng donasyon kasi medyo papalapit na iyong orihinal na pagbubukas ng pasok na beinte kuwatro sana ng Agosto,

[I believe that there is a budget for the modules and so maybe teachers ask for donations because the original opening of the school is nearing which is supposedly this August.]

In earlier reports, the Department of Education (DepEd) has allocated P9 billion for the printing of learning modules for the upcoming school year.

Pero ngayong na-move na po sa Oktubre, siguro mayroon namang sapat na panahon para ipaikot ng DepEd iyong budget para sa modular learning,

[But now that it [school opening] has been moved to October, maybe DepEd now has enough time to rotate the budget for modular learning.]

President Duterte has approved the recommendation of the Department of Education (DepEd) to move the school opening to October 5, from the August 24 schedule in a memorandum signed by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea on August 14.

Roque pointed out,

Well, lahat naman po ng preparasyon ay ginagawa ng DepEd. Dahil na-postpone po ang pagbubukas ng pasok sa Oktubre, ibig sabihin mas maraming panahon pa ang pupuwedeng magugol ng ating DepEd ‘no para masiguro na seamless ang pagbubukas po ng ating klase, 

[DepEd is doing all the necessary preparations. Since the opening of school is postponed by October, it means that DepEd can spend more time to ensure that the opening of classes is seamless.]
