The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has approved the partial resumption of operations of public utility jeepneys (PUJs) in selected routes in the National Capital Region (NCR).

According to Engr. Alberto Suansing, senior consultant to the Department of Transportation (DOTr), the government has allowed those without required QR codes to operate for a limited period of time.

QR codes are among the requirements before traditional jeepneys are allowed to resume operations during the general community quarantine (GCQ) as observed in Metro Manila due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

A total of 6,002 jeepneys for 49 routes have been approved to resume operations. Traditional jeepneys considered “roadworthy” will be allowed to resume operations.

Drivers and operators will have to comply with safety protocols such as checking of temperature, wearing of masks and gloves and following the 50 percent capacity for passengers to have physical distancing. Drivers are encouraged to put up a fare dropbox to limit contact transactions with passengers. The existing fare of P9 for the first four kilometers and P1.50 per succeeding kilometer will be applied to all units.

As for passengers, they have to fill out passenger contact forms for contact tracing purposes and should wear masks properly.
