Briones already warned the private schools of what may happen, that many learners will surely transfer to public schools.

Briones said in a press conference for Brigada Eskwela that a few reasons of the transfers are many parents losing their jobs and some were forced to stop the operation of their businesses due to lockdown protocols.

The lockdown lasted for atleast 3 months which is a big lost for small businesses specially those who rent a space.

Undersecretary Jess Mateo reported that 18, 871,245 out of the 27.7 million expected students have registered for the coming school year. Nearly 9 million students have yet to enroll.

The region with the minimal number of enrollees was Cordillera Administrative Region with 305, 645; followed by the Caraga Region with 475, 350; then the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao with 515, 748, based on the date presented by Undersecretary Mateo.

Meanwhile, CALABARZON has the most number of enrollees with 2, 553,471; followed by Central Luzon with 2, 022,226; then the National Capital Region with 1, 995,087.

The Department of Education (DepED) scheduled the first two weeks of June for online enrollment. And the following two weeks are for physical enrollment, where parents and learners will submit enrollment forms remotely or via drop boxes.

DepED decided to extend the enrollment until July 15 because there were only around half of the expected students enrolled on the last day of the month.

As of Wednesday morning, Undersecretary Mateo said around 68% of the expected students have registered.

Netizens comment also on the issue of transferring, some parents said not only that they don't have enough money but in some private schools parents will have to pay the same amount of tuition fee. Also, private schools mode of learning is e-learning or online classes. Their kids won't be in school and more of a collaboration of the school teachers and parents, that is why they ask for lower tuition fee. Also some parents said that they transfer their kids because their kids school decided not to open this school year.
