New Manila zoo soon to open next year after rehabilitation

A new and redeveloped Manila Zoo in Malate, Manila will be opened to the public next year following the local government’s groundbreaking ceremony for its restoration on July 25, 2020.

The Manila Zoo, which will undergo rehabilitation, will be the best zoo in Asia and will help stimulate the city’s economy,

Mayor Francisco Isko Moreno Domagoso said.

The mayor led the groundbreaking ceremony held on the zoo’s 61st anniversary, and assured the public that the new zoo will vie with those of other Southeast Asian countries.

This year, Mayor Isko finally gave the green light for work to start on its restoration, saying the redevelopment and rehabilitation. Mayor said that it is part of his administration’s agenda to stimulate the city’s economy in the long term.

The city has allotted P1.7 billion, will be similar and at par with Singapore Zoo, the mayor said. It will cover the 51,000 square meters and is expected to be finished within 19 months.

Manila Zoo’s redevelopment will also include exciting new facilities such as a veterinary hospital, new animal habitats, gardens, a museum, a restaurant, and a new parking area. As well as a coffee shop, so visitors can have a more comfortable place to relax and sip some drinks in between animal-spotting.

Mayor Isko added.

“Life and economy must be addressed together for us to survive this battle,” he said.

As Manila Zoo has been around for a long time, many wishes for it to get new and improved facilities. Everyone is excited about the rehabilitation and hoping that the City Government of Manila will be successful in implementing its ambitious plans for Manila Zoo.
