GSIS to launch a loan program for government workers to be used in blended learning

The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) will launch a two-loan program in the coming months. It is to help government workers to pay tuition and buy laptop or computers to use in the new education schemes brought about by the coronavirus pandemic.

On August 1, around P30,000 computer loan program will be available for those who need to buy a desktop or laptop to use in this school year's blended learning plan. The loans can be paid in three years at 6% interest, Dominguez said.

"Next month, GSIS will introduce a new P30,000 computer loan program to its active members to help them purchase a laptop or desktop in light of the new normal of holding distance or online classes," Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III said in an economic forum ahead of President Rodrigo Duterte's penultimate State of the Nation Address this month.

The GSIS will launch another loan program on Sept. 17 to help Filipinos pay for the education of their beneficiaries.

Dominguez said members of GSIS can take out a maximum loan of P100,000 per academic school year for their nominated student-beneficiaries. The loans are payable after five years from initial loan take out, he added.

In an earlier reports, the group of Alliance of Concerned Teachers and Teachers' Dignity Coalition said that teachers will only sink into debts because of the new loan program.

They added that the government should provide the needed gadgets of public school teachers to teach in this time of crisis.
