DFA records 50 new COVID-19 reported cases of infected Filipinos overseas

The Department of Foreign Affairs reported 50 new infections of Filipinos abroad who has contacted coronavirus. It increased to 8,854 on Sunday.

For the time being, eight more Filipinos recovered from the virus, bringing the total number of expats who have recovered to 5,274, while patients undergoing treatment are at 2,969. 

The Department of Foreign Affairs reports 17 new deaths on Sunday, July 12, raising the death toll to 611.

Since the start of the coronavirus crisis in early January, the DFA said over 78,000 overseas Filipinos have been repatriated as the pandemic left thousands displaced.

"As of yesterday, the department has repatriated over 78,800 overseas Filipinos since the government began its Covid-19 repatriation efforts in February 2020. The DFA, together with its Philippine embassies, consulates and attached agencies remains fully committed to bringing home our nationals abroad amid the Covid-19 pandemic," the DFA said. 

The Middle East/Africa still has the most number of COVID-19-positive Filipinos with 6,429 cases, including 343 deaths and 3,840 recoveries.

Data showed the Middle East continues to register the largest number of cases involving Filipinos overseas. The region also has the highest number of deaths recorded. 

Europe followed with 1,047 cases, including 95 fatalities and 468 recoveries.

Meanwhile, in the Americas, a total of 699 Filipinos have been infected, with 169 deaths, and 410 recoveries.

In the Asia Pacific Region, there are 679 cases, four of whom have died, 556 have recovered.

Worldwide cases soared past 12.7 million, while the death toll surpassed 565,000 in over 190 countries and territories.

On an earlier reports, the remains of 49 overseas Filipino workers (OFW) who died of the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and other causes in Saudi Arabia arrived in Manila on Friday and given arrival rites by various government agencies.

The caskets containing the bodies arrived on board Philippine Airlines flight PR-683 from Damman and Riyadh, which landed at Ninoy Aquino International Airport at around 11 a.m.

The second batch of the remains of overseas OFWs who died in Saudi Arabia will arrive on July 20, later than earlier expected.
