In order to ease blended learning, the Department of Education (DepEd) has introduced Learning Management System (LMS) that can be used by teachers and parents alike who would like to adapt to the new normal using online classes.
The DepEd Learning Management System gives teachers access to create a “virtual class” where they can assign various activities and lessons to each learner. Teachers can have access to many learning materials to help them deliver their lessons. They can also monitor their student's comprehension in the system once all the assigned activities and grade submissions have been completed.
The LMS will work in close association with the DepEd Commons which happens to hold Open Educational Resources (OERs), Electronic Self-Learning Modules (e-SLMs), and other multimedia lectures episodes that can be used by teachers to assign and schedule each activity that a learner must go through in the LMS.
Teachers can have access to over 5,000 media galleries and thousands of modules for elementary and high school students, and select collegiate courses that are easily available without compromising on the quality of education.
DepEd Secretary Leonor Magtolis-Briones said that DepEd have what they call the DepEd Commons.
“Right now we have about 8 million subscribers wherein lessons, homework, quizzes are all in the DepEd commons and are even accessible to the parents. So we have instances of parents who are abroad and are monitoring their children can also go through the system and check how their children are performing," she added.
Various platforms such as smartphones, desktop computers, laptops, and tablets can be used to access both the DepEd Commons and DepEd LMS.
To access the learning materials, teachers, learners, and parents must register through the following websites:
DepEd Commons: commons.deped.gov.ph
