Baguio candidate takes home Miss Philippines Earth title

The 23 years old Baguio beauty wins Miss Philippines Earth 2020 during the pageant's first-ever virtual coronation.

Roxanne Allison Baeyans from Baguio city stands 170cm tall with a degree in Tourism from St. Louis University. She works as a model and an endorser. Since the beginning of the competition, she was considered as one of the strongest contenders for the title and her hard work and focus was recognized by not only the judges but by the audiences too.

Roxanne bested 32 other delegates and won. She succeeded Miss Earth Philippines 2019 Janelle Lazo Tee.

During the final question and answer, the final five candidates were asked "What important quality should a leader display amidst a pandemic?"

Here is Roxanne's winning answer:

"A leader should display having a green thumb because at this point in time we have a shortage in food supply so it's important to open the eyes of people to embrace having a sustainable life to start urban agriculture at their own homes. After all a green life is a better life and I hope the leader will give that to us."

She also shared her take on social distancing, wearing of masks and washing of hands more often during a different round of question and answer portion with the rest of the semi-finalists.

“I think taking proper precaution should still be continued despite us being on GCQ. We are allowed to go back to our jobs not because it is safe but because livelihood is important. Let us not put our guards down. Let’s continue to take caution and let’s work in solidarity to finally put an end to this pandemic,” she said.

Roxanne will represent the Philippines in the Miss Earth pageant, which has yet to announce a finals date.

It was the first time the pageant held a virtual coronation due the continuing threat of the coronavirus disease.
