Kapuso Network or GMA Network Inc.'s launched their own digital TV. "GMA Affordabox” coincided with its 70th anniversary celebration. Also, it came less than two months after the Duterte administration shut down the television broadcasts of main rival ABS-CBN, severely impacting that company’s operations and its own digital TV product called the ABS-CBN TVPlus.
Affordabox is a plug-and-play device that connects to an analog TV set and allows it to receive digital broadcasts.

GMA also plan to launch three more digital TV channels, some within the year. The company has also priced the Affordabox at 40-percent less than the TVplus and with extra features such as video recording.
While ABS-CBN remains shut from the airwaves, the GMA affordabox surge in sales.
GMA chair and CEO Felipe Gozon told shareholders during their company's annual meeting, its Affordabox was “selling like hot pandesal” although he did not provide any figures.
“We are overshooting our targets,” Gozon said on Friday. “Just this morning, I have a request to increase the number of boxes to be purchased.” GMA initially planned to sell 600,000 affordabox.
GMA had an estimated market share of about 63 percent having its dominance in TV after ABS-CBN's broadcast franchise had been denied by lawmakers. The broadcast company started the mass layoff of its workers and the collapse of its various business divisions across the country due to its operations being halted.
GMA’s Affordabox was in response to this policy. Although it came later as having been launched late last month while ABS-CBN’s TVplus entered the market in 2015.
