127 total of foreigners in Philippines infected with Covid-19

The Department of Health (DOH) said that 127 foreign nationals in the Philippines have been infected with the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

In a televised press briefing, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said 74 of the foreigners were able to recover from the respiratory disease, 45 are currently admitted and 8 died.

“For the COVID-19 patients currently admitted in Chinese General Hospital, confirmed positive [cases] are Filipinos who are mostly from Metro Manila,” Vergeire said in a briefing.

The department did not release more information about the infected foreign nationals. For instance, their nationalities and their current status in the Philippines.

It was late January when the Philippines had the first three confirmed COVID-19 cases which were Chinese Nationals from Wuhan who entered country as tourists.

Five months later, Philippine coronavirus cases are now 46,333 nationwide, including 12,185 recoveries and 1,303 deaths.

In earlier reports, Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) said that NAIA Terminal 3 will be open for international flights starting July 8.

NAIA Terminal 3 will accept flights from flag carriers Nippon Airways, Air Asia Berhad, Cathay Pacific, Emirates, Royal Dutch Airlines, Qatar Airways, Singapore Airlines, and Turkish Airlines.

International operations of airline carriers Cebu Pacific, Delta Air, Qantas Airways, and United Airlines at Terminal 3 will still be suspended.

MIAA said NAIA Terminal 2 continues to service international arrival flights from Philippine Airlines (PAL). NAIA Terminal 1, meanwhile, operates international departure flights from PAL.

MIAA implemented terminal reassigment, Terminal 1 will service international commercial flights. Terminal 2 will be used for repatriation, sweeper flights and commercial domestic flights of flag carrier Philippine Airlines. Terminal 3 will be used for flights of Cebu Pacific and Air Asia. Terminal 4 will remain closed. Naia has incurred P1.8 billion in revenue losses compared to last year.

Since the country slowly opens out its gates, the government asked for everyone to follow all safety protocols being implemented as the country's economy needs to cope up with the losses incured during the three months lockdown.
